Love the streamlined look

Submitted by no nickname - 9/8/2017

I purchased this particular range because I remodeled my kitchen and needed a range that fit in my island, just the way my old range did. Because the island is in the center of my large kitchen, it is the focal point and the place where my company hangs out whenever I entertain. I was happy to find a range that not only fit in the space but looks sleek and clean all the time. I love it and was so happy to find it at M & H appliance in St. Cloud, MN!!!

Superior Perform./Excellent Solution for Island or Peninsula

Submitted by T. Ernie - 8/22/2017

Searched high and low for a solution to a peninsula installation. Previous down draft (not a Kitchenaid) was old and didn't work well. This slide-in was easy to install, is sleek and stylish, and functions amazingly. The oven controls are on top, the cook top controls are similar in size to gas ranges. The elements heat quickly and thoroughly and the variety of setting make this four burner range nearly as functional as a five burner one. The oven door is big (as is the oven cavity) and the glass clear - so you can really see how dishes are cooking without having to open the oven. And lastly, this is one beautiful appliance! As of now we couldn't be happier!!

Amazing Heating Elements!

Submitted by MMiera - 7/28/2017

New Kitchen Aid electric cook top came in to compliment my Kitchen Aid Dishwasher, and I could not be more pleased with the size of the oven, easy slide baking racks, and ability to use both conventional and convection oven options. But what I love the most is the smooth and efficient heating elements. They heat up fast, and provide a great even cooking surface. Overall great appliance!

Frustrations with initial quality and installation

Submitted by NUMCV88 - 7/26/2017

This is a nice stove with some nice features. That said, my experience so far has been very frustrating. Lets start with the delivery and uncrating. The stove ships in a box with only a couple of pieces of thin strapping with foam protecting the bottom. Because of this the delivery person must be very careful with how they position a dolly to move the box. In our case they used the wrong area and caused the lower side panel to fold in. It is only cosmetic and hidden when installed but better packing for real world handling should be considered. It is also very difficult to lift the stove out of the packing since there is no clearance. Next is installation, the downdraft assembly is a very tight fit making installation somewhat difficult. There is barely the required clearance to slide the stove over the blower. That said, there is more room in the oven than in the 20 year old Jenn-Air we replaced. So long as you don't have to move the stove out after installation, I can overlook this. The biggest issue I found so far is the height adjustment. The manual states it is designed for 36" counter height at lowest foot setting. Turns out our island is 1/4" lower and we can not adjust down to allow for the trim kit to be properly installed. I would have expected the 1" adjustment on the legs to allow for some variability from the 36" standard for some older home installations. Finally, the need for an add on trim kit seems like an oversight. The earlier Jenn-Air had a small overhang in the stove top to cover the gap that served the same purpose as the trim kit but was not an add on and as a result looked nicer. For these reasons I had to give design a low mark. As for quality, I am disappointed that the touch pad had issues out of the box. the #9 button does not work and the #3 and #6 only sometimes work. A new touch control board is on order to replace this one. The features of the range seem very nice including the steam bake and easy convect features.

Downdraft still here

Submitted by Carolyn - 7/17/2017

I was concerned that replacing in my 25 year old Jenn Air slide in, electric range could be a problem after the brand disappeared. The Kitchenaid option is just perfect and even better with steam and bread proofing functions. The only improvement would be to add a white color option.

So happy to have found a replacement for Thermador downdraft

Submitted by MariBo - 7/12/2017

I've had this installed for about three weeks and love this appliance. Bakes well. Stovetop is great--heats fast. This is really silly but one feature I think is great is how well you can actually see what's cooking in the oven. I haven't used the downdraft or some of the other features--but I will soon.

Good Oven, but range hard to clean

Submitted by T-town Ken - 7/2/2017

We found this as the only economical option for replacing a 22 year old Kenmore downdraft. I love the convection oven, but the glasstop range is hard to clean. Have tried several products and none work well. Also, when wiping the top, I hit the oven touch pad (which is extremely sensitive) and I end up needing to reset my oven if it's in use. The downdraft is quieter and more efficient then the Kenmore, but I must admit, I miss my Kenmore range. It had more options such as a grill and griddle and was a lot easier to keep clean.

Stove is ok

Submitted by Bbiglin - 6/21/2017

The stove works fine, I don't have any issue with it's ability to cook my food. The logistics of the touch-button panel are a nightmare. I can't tell you how many times I've heard my boyfriend cursing the button panel while he's making a meal. The timer function makes no sense--you have to push the timer button, set the time (it doesn't do seconds btw) then push the timer button again and THEN press OK. Took us awhile to figure that one out. It's ultra sensitive when you're not trying to press any buttons and when you are, you have to push extra hard.

Huge Oven, getting used to computer aided cooking.

Submitted by Cormac - 5/23/2017

The oven and cook top elements are managed by a fly-by-wire system. This takes a little getting used to, but results have been fine. The elements turn on and off often to maintain temperature. A little experimentation with the knob settings gets things going. The oven is all about programming. Made some great no kneed bread right off. Several heavy racks come with the range. Oven is a bit slow to heat up if they are all left in. Replaces a downdraft gas/elec. range in a free-standing counter with no hood. This fan is quieter. A rubber bumper on the oven door was missing, fixed in a few days by local rep. Note, links to Kitchenaid Terms and Privacy Statement open blank pages.

Cooks great; Scratches easily

Submitted by Jane - 5/2/2017

I needed a downdraft oven and found better reviews on the Kitchen Aid than the Jenn Air. After purchasing this very pricey appliance, we noticed scratches on the stainless piece that runs across the front of the oven. The scratches occurred with normal use. Since that time, we have been very careful not to sit anything on the stovetop, being that it is evidently too fragile for normal use. I called Kitchen Aid, who sent out a repairman to assess the damage. He reported the scratches and was told that there was absolutely nothing that they were willing to do since the oven was more than 30 days old. Now I have a four month old appliance that I saved up for several years to purchase with very noticeable scratches.

I bought this downdraft stove two weeks ago to replace a jennaire downdraft. The dealer delivered it one week ago but I am still waiting for the dealer to send someone to install the downdraft motor. In addition, the vent hole doesn't line up with my older stove, so a new hole has to be cut into the floor.

GREAT replacement to our 31 year old Jenn Air

Submitted by Tony G. - 4/25/2017

We purchased the Kitchen 950 downdraft electric range to replace our 31 year old Jenn Air of the same type. It heats up much quicker than the old Jenn Air and with options like the larger oven, precise timing, convection timer converter, and smooth cooking surface, it creates an excellent upgrade to the ranges of this generation.

Great performance; difficult to install

Submitted by Deb - 4/11/2017

I love how quickly the stovetop heats up. The glass material is a bit difficult to clean - way moreso than my old cheap frigidaire. The downdraft is mediocre and horrible to install - it does not match the old Jenn-air configuration. To Kitchenaid's benefit, they do include instructions that tell you how to deal with the change in ductwork and the oven is so much larger that it's worth it. The oven is wonderful - cooks evenly and heats up quickly. You have to figure out how not to scratch the control area.

Downdraft included

Submitted by Kymease - 4/7/2017

We bought this stove for our new kitchen island so the downdraft was a must. While it is a nice feature it was a long complicated process to install it. The oven is nice with 3 racks and a light. The cooktop is taking more time to get used to. It seems to take 45 minutes just to boil water! I don't like that. It is an attractive stove and requires extra care in clean up. You have to use flat bottomed pots and pans or you'll end up with circles cooked into the glass cook top.

Terrible product

Submitted by Tyler - 4/3/2017

I already wrote a review on this product and reached out to customer service and haven't received any feedback. The oven takes 20+ min to preheat to 400 degrees. The cooktop is extremely difficult to regulate temperature, it's boiling or lukewarm. The cooktop is impossible to clean, always looks dirty. Kitchenaid logo is crooked. This unit is no better than a 800 range.

I am disappointed that there were no recipes for the steam baking and convection baking. So I'm having to learn on my own how to use this oven. I am also disappointed that no sample of cleaning material, etc. were included with the oven, as expensive as the oven was, it was it looks like a little sample would have been included. Instead you have to pay a good amount of money to order what they recommend.

Beautiful design & a spacious oven

Submitted by Celestial - 3/27/2017

Overall, this is a beautiful oven and I am very happy with it's performance. I love the convection oven and the stove top boils water very quickly. The disadvantage is the downdraft did not hook up with my current oven that I was replacing, so that was costly to fix. Also, the stainless steel finish is not finger proof so I am always cleaning it.

A huge, frustrating waste of time and money

Submitted by Mike - 3/9/2017

First off, let me say I am just a guy who likes to cook. There, I said it. I have been cooking for a long time and have cooked on all types of stove tops; gas, electric and recently the inductive tops. Getting to the meat of the issue, (sorry) let me say I couldn't possibly be more disappointed with this stove top. The oven is just ok. I have owned this stove for a little over a year. There is absolutely nothing to like about this product. I bought it in part because it has the ability to downdraft the odors and smoke to the outside. However, in fairness, I have not hooked this up, because it is not an easy task if you choose to DIY, or inexpensive if you choose to have a professional install it. The reason I've not connected the downdraft is because I am looking for another stove. That's right, it is that disappointing. After spending nearly $3,000 I want to dump this thing. Getting to the point, it has to do with lack of heat control. Electric stove tops have never been that great at this function, but this unit is the worst I have ever had the misfortune to own. In order for the burners to even begin to heat up in a period less than the next ice age, they must be on a Hi setting. Eventually, the product will start to cook or boil. That's when you must remove it completely from the burner or IT WILL BURN or boil away. Turning down the control has no effect for at least 8 to 10 minutes. I am not kidding or exaggerating one bit. If you started out trying to get a low simmer with the proper dial setting, it will take 18 minutes to reach that point with 8 oz. of water. Trying to cook any combination of dishes simultaneously, each with its own specific heat requirement is nearly impossible. After turning off the burner, expect the stove top to remain too hot to touch for at least 15 minutes. The nice glossy black surface is pretty, but is difficult to keep clean. If you so much as spill a drop of anything and I mean anything other than water, you had better stop what

Great Stove!

Submitted by Vivian - 3/9/2017

Not too easy to install for a do-it-yourselfer. We replaced a Jenn-Aire and the downdraft requires a different exhaust outlet but once installed works great. Would give it 5 stars if it included a cookbook with instructions on how to steam bake and use the convection oven. VK P S Good looking stove and love the larger oven!

Replacement stove

Submitted by The cook - 3/7/2017

Love this stove that replaces a Jenaire downdraft electric stove. I read the reviews and I bought this one thinking it would be an installation using the exsisting venting. Not the case. The profile of the fan is completely different. Since we live in a rural area, installers are not always available. We hired an electrician to do the install, but he wasn't able do it. It took 2 days, a very creative handyman, and lots of patience to finally get it installed. If I had known of this issue, I would have purchased just a regular stove without the downdraft.

A few pros, many cons

Submitted by Tyler - 3/7/2017

I just recently purchased this range. It's very nice looking out of the box but it went downhill from there. The only other positive is the the power of the downdraft though it is a bit noisy. You would think when you pay almost $3k for a higher end range they could put the kitchenaid logo on straight, mine is crooked. The cooktop is very challenging to control the temperature. It's either low or boiling, medium heat is impossible to find/maintain. The biggest negative is the fact that the oven takes over 20 minutes to preheat to 425. My old range took 8 minutes. Plan your meals well in advance. Ultimately I'm very disappointed in my purchase especially considering the cost. If I had any alternatives for a downdraft I would return it to the store.

Ease of Use

Submitted by Hack Cook - 3/5/2017

Enjoying our new downdraft range! We needed a down draft to replace an existing one. There are not too many to choose from now and this one seemed the best for our purposes. The smart convection settings make converting recipes a breeze. Everything has been cooking, baking and roasting to perfection. The cooktop is easy to clean with no annoying cracks and crevices. I like the indicators that highlight when the burners are on or even still hot to the touch. Aside from a slightly loud downdraft, my only complaint is that the control panel is too sensitive. Even a drop of water registers on it. All in all, a good looking and functional range.

Submitted by Abby - 3/4/2017

I replaced a 20+ year old downdraft slide-in range. KitchenAid is the only company that still make a downdraft range (there were 4 or 5 when bought our original one) to slide into an island, so we had no choice but this one. So, I really didn't study the features or design. However, I'm pretty much loving this new one. Not sure how much is just that the tech is so much improved in the last 20 years, or that it's just exceptional, but I love it all the options and flexibility of the burners, convection, etc. I've only had it a few weeks so I can't speak to the reliability, but i'm hopeful that it is repair-free for a long time given the relative expense of a downdraft vs a regular range.

Beautiful Stove

Submitted by Lulabelle - 2/23/2017

We bought this range about 6 months ago. I would never recommend this oven to anyone. Reason 1 - It takes approximately 19 minutes to "Preheat" the oven. Reason 2 - If you need to cook an item longer after the allotted time, you have to start the entire process again to turn the oven on and RE "Preheat" the oven. Reason 3 - When cooking something on top of the stove, the burners take forever to cool down; therefore you have to stand at the stove so the food will not boil over. Reason 4 - No matter what temperature it is set to cook, you need to add another 15 minutes + before starting to cook because the temperature in the oven is still not quite at the temperature set.

I use to always buy the cheaper stoves. your only cooking on it.. not really.. theres a big difference with the quality the heating and all the options this stove has... we liked it that much for 2 days all we did was cook and bake with it... the elements heat up very quickly and cool down fast as well ..we love all the features this stove has and would recommend it and repurchase another...

Great option for downdraft

Submitted by Jo - 2/1/2017

I was surprised how well the downdraft fan works, does a great job so far. The oven bakes even too and burners heat quickly and give good range of heat options. I like the ultra low a lot. I also like the proof option for the oven. My big complaint is the timer, its a problem as it turns off the heat and then I have to reset everything. As a baker, I always set the timer a little before baking time should be done just so I can keep an eye on things. The timer should not be connected to the oven on/off.

Submitted by Baking Fool - 1/25/2017

This oven replaced a 26 year old. Amazed how fast the burners heat up. Come a long way since the coil burners. Take a bit to cool down before I can clean top but that is about the only bad thing I can say about it. Impressed with the oven too. Wider and deeper than what I had. The larger window is easier to see everything along with two light bulbs for light. The panel was pretty easy to adapt to. About the only thing it doesn't do is mix up the cake batter for me but I guess that is what my KitchenAid Mixer is for. ;o)

Submitted by Root - 1/17/2017

We needed an electric downdraft range for our island in the kitchen of our new home. At 3000+ it was a bite in the wallet. Only 2 ranges would work, this one and its cousin made under the jenn Air name. It heats well, almost to quick at times. My concern and reason for a 3 star rating is the cost and the fact that it's 6 months old and the 0 on the control pad doesn't always work. If I need to set the oven temp or the timer at 400 or 40 I have to set it at 395 or 41. I was about to call for warranty repair when I tried it one more time and behold! The 0 worked. So this is an on again off again issue that unless it's not working when the repair guy comes, it can't be fixed. Not a big deal to set the temp at 395 instead of 400 , it's just that it's a brand new appliance that's been barely used. Not sure how long the pad will work.

Great replacement

Installed myself in our island without too much trouble. The stainless trim at the top front of the cooking surface is too high causing pans to scratch it's surface if you are not careful and don't lift the pan as you remove it. Also wish the burner designation graphic at the control was larger.
